District Announcements

Championed by Superintendent Ghysels and facilitated by Assistant Superintendent Burmeister and school principals, MPCSD is engaged in a four-month long process from August to December to identify our “Strategic Directions” for the next six years. The process began with an interactive “working session” of the Board and District Leadership Team on August 26. The Strategic Directions will become the foundation of the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) -- the new accountability plan required by the state. Joining the two affords us a great opportunity to streamline and focus districtwide. The open input window closed on November 6; however, if you would like to provide additional perspective, please email Assistant Superintendent Erik Burmeister at Strategic Directions will be approved at the December 8 Board meeting. The LCAP will be approved in June 2016. If you have any questions about the Strategic Directions or LCAP process, please don’t hesitate to email Superintendent Ghysels and/or Assistant Superintendent Burmeister.

The PTOs for Encinal, Laurel, Oak Knoll and Hillview, along with the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation (MPAEF), are working together to make our schools the best they can be for all of our kids. When you support your PTO, you make possible curriculum enrichment, field trips, community building events, and well-supplied classrooms. When you support the MPAEF, you are putting more teachers in our schools – both in the classroom and in specialized areas such as art, music, drama, library and science. All of this makes a real difference in your child’s day and, ultimately, in their education.

Please support these organizations today. Start by clicking here.

PTO donations are due by September 30. Make your commitment to the MPAEF by November 6.

Rainy Day Before School Procedures
If it is raining before school, all students report to the multi. At 8:15, K-4 classrooms open and all students go to their classrooms at that time. For safety, students are to walk only on our paths (not on grass or in plant areas) when it is raining.

*** INDEPENDENT STUDY OPTION *** If you plan to be out for three or more days for a family trip or other unexcused absence, please notify your child's teacher a week ahead of time so the teacher can put together an Independent Study Plan (ISP) packet for your child.  Your child's absence will then be marked as ISP, not marked as unexcused!!
